App of the Week to Try: Fetch! Lunch Rush

App of the week: Fetch! Lunch Rush
Cost: Free
Developer: PBS
Why is it exciting? It’s an augmented reality app.  Enough said.

I have shown this to a bunch of people, because I LOVE IT! It’s a great kinesthetic way of practicing Math.

I have the markers (the pieces for the game) printed and laminated in the iPad cart (I made 3 sets for 25 iPads).  Teachers can take them and put them around the classroom, in the hall, on the wall or on the grass outside (when it gets a bit warmer).  You can put the kids in small groups (up to 4 kids/iPad), pairs or on their own and they have to solve simple addition questions by holding the iPad over the correct marker and tapping the sushi.

The markers show up with pieces of sushi (kids can use them to count) on them that correspond to the number (so card number 8 has 8 pieces of sushi on it- but only on the iPad).

Give it a try, you’ll like it…your kids will love it.

Is it approved by the division? Yes.
